Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: ED - Emergency Department - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 07/22/2025 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel Position Title: Emergency Room (ER) Nurse /n Job Summary: The ER Nurse is a critical member of the healthcare team responsible for providing high-quality, urgent medical care to patients in the emergency department (ED). They assess, monitor, and treat patients with acute medical conditions and injuries, ensuring prompt and effective care in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment. The ER Nurse works closely with doctors, specialists, and other healthcare staff to deliver patient-centered care while maintaining safety, efficiency, and compassion. /n Key Responsibilities: /n /n 1. /n Patient Assessment: /n /n - Triage patients based on the severity of their condition and prioritize care accordingly. /n - Perform thorough physical assessments and obtain detailed medical histories from patients. /n - Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and patient status, identifying changes and responding appropriately. /n /n /n 2. /n Emergency Care and Treatment: /n /n - Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and interventions as directed by the physician. /n - Provide wound care, assist with procedures, and manage trauma or critical care patients. /n - Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, surgeries, or other procedures as required. /n - Ensure proper documentation of all treatments, medications, and patient interactions in the electronic medical record (EMR). /n /n /n 3. /n Collaboration and Communication: /n /n - Work in collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care. /n - Effectively communicate with patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and expected outcomes. /n - Assist with educating patients on follow-up care, preventive measures, and any necessary lifestyle adjustments. /n /n /n 4. /n Crisis Management: /n /n - Respond to medical emergencies quickly and effectively, providing advanced life support (ALS) when needed. /n - Take swift action in the event of cardiac arrest, trauma, or other urgent health conditions. /n - Manage life-threatening situations with a calm demeanor, ensuring the safety and stability of patients. /n /n /n 5. /n Patient Advocacy and Support: /n /n - Advocate for patients by ensuring they receive timely and appropriate care. /n - Provide emotional support to patients and families during stressful situations. /n - Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. /n /n /n 6. /n Compliance and Safety: /n /n - Adhere to all hospital and department policies, protocols, and standards of care. /n - Ensure that all equipment is properly sterilized and maintained. /n - Follow infection control guidelines to reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections. /n /n /n 7. /n Education and Professional Development: /n /n - Stay updated with the latest trends, guidelines, and best practices in emergency nursing care. /n - Participate in continuing education programs, workshops, and other training to maintain certifications and expand clinical knowledge. /n - Mentor and guide new nurses and students within the department. /n /n /n /n Qualifications: /n /n - Education:/n /n - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required. /n /n /n - Licensure:/n /n - Current state RN license in good standing. /n - Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required. /n - Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications preferred. /n /n /n - Skills:/n /n - Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. /n - Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress situations. /n - Proficient in using medical equipment, including monitors, defibrillators, and IV pumps. /n - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, families, and team members. /n /n /n /n Working Conditions: /n /n - Work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases, trauma, and other health hazards. /n - Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. /n - Physical demands may include standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and responding quickly in emergencies. /n /n Benefits: /n /n - Health, dental, and vision insurance. /n - Retirement savings plan. /n - Continuing education reimbursement and certification support. /n Wellspring Nurse Source Job ID 32965389.
